February 23, 2015

On February 23, 2015, around 2:36 am, Montgomery dispatched Co. 17 to the area of 6400 Olney Laytonsville Rd/6400 Dorsey Rd for a report of a house fire. PE717 arrived on scene to a single family house with fire through the roof. Additional fire departments were dispatched to assist with the house fire. Due to the heavy fire, there was a partial roof collapse which prevented the firefighters from entering the structure to attack the fire so a defensive attack was made from the outside. Once the fire was knocked, firefighters were able to enter and do a search in sides A and B. It took over 75 firefighters to extinguish the fire. At this time there are no reports of anyone being injured and no one being in the house.

While firefighters were at the scene, Montgomery dispatched another house fire in Laytonsville around 5:00 am at 6313 Holland Meadow Ln. Surrounding departments were dispatched to this call as Co. 17 was still handling the house fire on Dorsey Rd. Arriving units arrived on scene to find a space heater had caught on fire in a garage. There were minor damages and no one was hurt.

At 5:20 am, Montgomery dispatched several units to the intersection of Brink Rd. and Rt. 124 for a PIC with a report of one trapped. RS703 from Rockville was dispatched to assist with extrication as RS717 was still on the initial house fire. There were several injuries and all patients were transported to local hospitals for further evaluation.

At 8:08 am, Montgomery dispatched units to a PIC with a fuel spill in front of the 7-11 on Onlny Laytonsville Rd.

At 8:49 am, Chief 717 (Sutton) advised Montgomery that there was another PIC with one overturned at the 8600 Block of Goshen View Dr. Chief 717 requested for Hazmat crew from from Station 28 in Gaithersburg. Fortunately, no fuel was spilled and no one was injured.

The firefighters at Laytonsville continued to stay busy throughout the day.

Units: PE717, RS717, A717, D717, C717, C717D, CT717
