April 20, 2008 - Laytonsville Participates in  2008 Rural Water Supply Drill
On Sunday April 20th the MSFA held the spring 2008 Rural Water Supply Drill. The drill was held in the Baden area of Prince George's County and was hosted by several Prince George's County Fire Companies and the MSFA Rural Water Supply Committee. MSFA Rural Water Supply Committee Chairperson Doug Alexander was proud to announce that the drill was an overwhelming success with "approximately 170 participants and approximately 40 pieces of apparatus." This drill was especially unique because it also included two fire boats that were able to draft and pump from the river. As with every drill this was a learning exercise so there were a few communication issues, very uncooperative weather, and some dump site limitations. Despite these issues, we were able to learn a great deal and get some important practice. A full review of the days' activities will be available shortly.
The MSFA would like to thank each individual and fire company that participated in this drill and the people who took the time to plan and run the drill. The attitude of each and every person was excellent. We came to work together and to learn and that is exactly what happened. We would also like to congratulate the host companies on their hard work and a successful drill. Also, everyone who ate the yummy lunch, hot coffee and donuts, and snacks at the dump site would like to thank the Baden Ladies Auxiliary and the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Ladies Auxiliary Canteen Unit. Arriving on the scene about 30 seconds later, AFC Burns found a detached garage was found with heavy smoke showing from the bay doors, roofline, and eaves of the structure. EW717 (Lt. Hugeley) quickly initiated an attack with a 2" line, finding a small fire on the first floor, with the bulk of the fire being in the office space above the garage. An aggressive interior attack was initiated and brought the fire under control in approximately 7 minutes. RS717 (FFIII Magruder) quickly went to assist with opening up the second floor, completing a search, and confirming all occupants were accounted for. Units worked to open up the second floor and roof area to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished, and were returned to service
