On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Rescue Association awarded Firefighter/Rescuer II Kayla Russell and Captain Richard Gregory the "George T. Hillard Firefighter of the Year" award for their immediate life saving actions on a critical EMS incident over the summer involving a pediatric patient.
Both Kayla and Richard dedicate thousands of hours a year providing critical staffing at Company 17. They also serve on the LDVFD Executive Board and participate in numerous events and functions throughout the year.
