August 7 - Laytonsville and Damascus Volunteers combine for Softball

This spring and summer Volunteers from Laytonsville and Damascus played together as one team in a softball league consisting of other volunteer departments in the county. Although the regular season wasn't as good as the team would have liked they seemed to turn it around for the play offs. Laytonsville's team entered the playoffs in last place, however, on Tuesday, July 30, things turned around for the team in a big way. Garry Bowles pitched 3 outstanding games along with help from a stellar performance by his defense. Laytonsville was able to win 3 straight games including an upset of the number one seed. The following Tuesday, the team played for the championship, however, fell short in two games thus giving Laytonsville a second place finish. It was a great and exciting year for the team and they are looking forward to next year.
