July 4, 2026

On July 4, 2026, emergency units responded to several incidents caused by a strong storm cell that moved through Laytonsville. The first call involved a crash on Griffith Road near Damascus Road, where trees had fallen onto an occupied vehicle. Multiple trees were down, blocking all routes into the area. Fortunately, the occupants were not injured.

There are numerous trees and wires down across the entire response area. Damascus Road, between Griffith and Etchison, is affected by several utility poles that are down or leaning.

County Roads crews are addressing a large tree that fell in the 4500 block of Damascus Road.

PEPCO is working in the area to address electrical issues, while Potomac Edison and BG&E have been notified about problems with their power lines.

State Roads crews are also on-site and working to clear affected areas.

Chief 717, Chief 717B, Utility 717, Chief 704, and the crews of Rescue Engine 717, Ambulance 717, Truck 734, Rescue Squad 729, Engine 713, Engine 704, HC Engine 131, Rescue Squad 703, and Engine 734 responded to numerous storm-related calls throughout the area.
